A polite notice to anybody thinking of contacting me to contribute an unpaid article to their site or publication:

I earn my living – or at least part of it – from writing about wine. It is insulting for you to offer no proper payment for the time and expertise that would go into the work you have asked me to to do.

You make a profit from your publication or website and yet the people who you should be encouraging and paying above all – writers – are treated as some kind of cheap labour with which to fill your publication or website while you sell lucrative advertising on the back of that free content.

If you want cheap or free content there is a factory in Taiwan that turns out wine articles at a price I could never match. Please contact them, not me.
