Sterling Vineyards was founded in 1964 by Sir Peter Newton in the Calistoga district of Napa Valley and specialises in Bordeaux-style red wines based on Cabernet Sauvignon.
In 1969 the winery bottled the first vintage-dated Napa Valley Merlot and made its first vintages of Cabernet Sauvignon and Sauvignon Blanc.
Napa Valley enjoyed a long, cool summer and then a very hot grape harvest in 1974.
Sterling Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon 1974 is a good example of this classic Californian Cabernet vintage.
