I have been fortunate to taste several nineteenth century Madeiras and Sherries. But I had never had an unfortified table wine older than 1900 (Marques de Riscal 1900, to be exact).
That changed on 30th March 2012 when, as the guest of Malene Meisner of The White Club, I was able to enjoy Château d’Yquem and other Sauternes back to 1894 during a dinner held at Grand Hotel Les Trois Rois in Basel.
